Gabor Lens meeting: 01May20; 16:00 BST

Notes

Present: KL, CW, TSD, RB

  1. We agreed to move this meeting to Thursday's at 16:00. KL: To organise, TSD will take over organisation etc.
  1. Introduction, notes and actions: KL/All
    • KL: Work with RAL to re-vitalise TSD's federal Id;
      • Done. Long-service medal to all!
    • TSD: Attempt some tutorial examples from VSIM
      • Stands. Can now proceed.
    • JPo: Provide TSD with the geometry of the present prototype Gabor lens
      • Stands.
    • KL/RB: Take a look at the Bingham et al paper on laser-driven accelerator for medicine
      • Stands.
  1. Overview of mark 2 Gabor lens design: CW
    Description circulated in advance of meeting. The file linked here defines the working dimensions of the lens.
  1. Review of calculation of instability: RB
    No time for renewed calculations this week.
  1. Status of simulation of Gabor lens: TSD
    Now has SCARF access, so can make a start. In the mean time TSD has begun to simulate the LhARA source/capture system.
  1. Discussion of next steps: ALL Next steps:
    • TSD: initiate electrostatic simulations in VSIM on SCARF.
    • KL: (Re)initiate contact with O.Ettlinger, G.Hicks, and Z.Najmudin with a view to finding some support to get started with, e.g., SMILIE.
