= Gabor Lens meeting: 18Jun20; 16:00 BST = === Summary of actions: === None recorded. == Notes == **Present:** KL, CW, TN, TSD, HTL, RB 1. //Introduction, notes and actions//: KL/All * **KL/RB:** Take a look at the Bingham et al paper on laser-driven accelerator for medicine * **Done.** Agree to write up the present work and refer to the Bingham et al document as required. 2. //[raw-attachment:GaborLensOverviewTobyN.pdf Previous Gabor lens prototype]//: **TN** * See slides. Discussion of possible causes of instablility observed. Agreed that helping get the best from the paper was of interest to the capture group. The capture people were "up-for" helping with the understanding of the instablilities. 3. //[raw-attachment:180620_HTL.pdf Updates on the particle generation (2 micron thin foil)]//: **HT** * Improved simulations presented. Issue of banding discussed. * Discussion of boundary effects and types of boundary that had been assumed. * RB and HTL will continue to develop simualtion by email. 4. //Updates on VSim simulations//: **TSD** * [raw-attachment:LhARA_Capture_18Jun20_TSD.ppsx Second simulation of the lens] * See slides. N_e increased, other parameters adjusted. Plasma oscillations still observed, but, the effective length of the plasma has been stablisised. * Suggest to increase field to 0.1T.= in an attempt to stabilise the lateral oscillations. Noted that this will cause length of plasma to reduce. * Results should be shared with D.Spears as well as RB and CW. Possible support from D.Spears for TSD. * CW suggests plasma cloud fills volume so that means the magnetic field is just sufficient to contain the plasma. So, need to change geometry so that the get sufficient plasma length to generate focusing. 5. //ERC proposal//: **All** \\ * Front page **KL** * Had made an attempt which was presently too long. Will try and complete a draft before the end of the week. 6. //Discussion of next steps//: **All** * Written above. ---- == Agenda == 1. //Introduction, notes and actions//: KL/All * **KL/RB:** Take a look at the Bingham et al paper on laser-driven accelerator for medicine 2. //[raw-attachment:GaborLensOverviewTobyN.pdf Previous Gabor lens prototype]//: **TN** 3. //[raw-attachment:180620_HTL.pdf Updates on the particle generation (2 micron thin foil)]//: **HT** 4. //Updates on VSim simulations//: **TSD** * [raw-attachment:LhARA_Capture_18Jun20_TSD.ppsx Second simulation of the lens] 5. //ERC proposal//: **All** \\ * Front page **KL** 6. //Discussion of next steps//: **All** ----
