15 MSci students Zaynab and Nadirah found that the new model, from Nick Dover, for electron temperature in the LhARA Linear Optics source simulation is still not suitable for intensities above 1020W/cm2. However, it can be employed as a phenomenological model with further investigation on the effects of this parameter for kinematic distributions at the end of the beamline is required.

17 The students also attempted to recreate RCF stack energy distributions, provided by Nick Dover from an experiment at LION, by adjusting the quadrupoles’ offsets and tilts. They were able to reproduce certain features, and the offsets and tilts were around the manufacturer’s precision for the PMQs. Further work is required to investigate fringe fields and variability in the source as the cause for other features in the RCF stacks, as well as to replace the density plots used with actual energy deposition.
