LhARA radiobiology; meeting: 12Jun25; 14:00 BST

Notes

  1. Minutes and actions:
  1. Field mapping, preparation of PMQs: HO/BS
    • Delivery today (12th June) Fingers crossed
  1. Strathclyde Updates: RG, RW, CW
    • Laser optics have been damaged:
      • Hope for company to come and replace the Sapphire crystal by next week (Wednesday...). Require testing time for the new laser, and likely the quad testing will have to be pushed back to July.
      • Investigate if ITRF can extend funding. Otherwise bio run will have to be done before September. (There is a potential clash with a Czech experiment as well).
    • Drives and stands to be delivered next week. Robbie has everything prepped, so this should not cause a delay.
    • Bio-safety cabinets' exhausts could be fixed by 19th June:
      • Back-up would be a cabinet on the 5th floor. Colin to talk to the person who uses that, but no rush to use since there is the delay due to the laser and this cabinet is a recirculating one, so not as sterile as desired.
    • Waste and plastic consumables:
      • Jason to talk to the Fisher rep and get a plan of action for ordering and delivery of consumables to Strathclyde.
      • Colin to talk to the autoclave facility in the Wolfson building for Bio waste disposal, as the bench top one is not big enough.
    • RCF stack fiduciary:
      • Use a laser to cut a fiduciary
      • Maybe send to "Chris" for cutting (Keep Ken and Calvin in the loop).
  1. PMQ Positioning: CD, RG, JMcG
    • Inspected off-energy particles using a uniform energy source distribution. Distribution for a 2cm diameter spot size peaks near 10MeV and has tails on either side. Higher energy tail expected to decrease when the uniform spectrum is replaced by an laser-driven one. Spot size diameter corrected to 1.85cm.
    • Calvin to pass on the energy distributions to Tony to simulate the dose on the cells.
    • Simulation structure: 50 micron deep mylar vacuum window. 2.5 micron deep mylar covering the cells. Cells usually 20-40 microns deep in the media.

  1. Bioprep: EM/MH
    • Next cyclotron run on Thursday (19th Jun)

    • Check with Ross and Robbie to confirm if the laser has caused a delay

    • Confusion with meeting links. Will clarify the actual link before next meeting.

Summary of actions

  • CD: Send energy distributions to Tony in csv or txt format
  • HO: Flag the laser delay with ITRF and ask for a possible extension
  • CW: Check on exhausts and talk to the "owner" of the backup cabinet
  • RW/RG: Fix the laser :) and cut fiduciary into RCF stacks
  • BT/RW: Send Calvin the proton energy spectrum.
  • JP: Talk to Fisher and get a plan of action for the order and delivery of consumables to Strathclyde
  • CW: Speak to autoclave facility for bio waste disposal.
