Meeting Notes

  1. BioPrep
    • Discussion of funding: excess LhARA funds to be spent on bio equipment for SCAPA. Plan being developed on how to utilise these funds.
    • Emma to present plan for PoPLaR Tuesday 24th LhARA collaboration meeting.
  1. Improving the Beamline
    • JMcG: Simulation of BELLA source by using a spectrum provided of the beam at 52 mm on an RCF- Beamline. BELLA-source-simulations.pdf
    • Source characterisation looks promising, having issues with rest of the beam, losing a lot of particles.
    • Plan to run linear optics and BDSIM side by side to check each component.
    • Plan to do the same for Eli.
  1. In-Beam Diagnostic
    • Sci-fi planes at the workshop waiting on filing.
    • To do initial measurements 30th March.
    • Masters students joining for a few months- plan to do experiment with sci-fi planes: counting photons with UV source.

Summary of actions required

In-Beam Diagnostics

  • RW, CD: Study correlation between laser diagnostics and mean dose
  • CD, TP: Refine evaluations of LET in the cells with the RCF in front
  • CD: Predict the cell dish dose from the RCF in front of it
  • PH: Investigate how to get the light out of the vacuum chamber
  • Investigate how a phosphor sheet could be incorporated into the design
  • Acquire a glass sheet

Bio Next Steps

  • EM: Write up a biology plan
    • Decide whether to use Marie's lab and whether to stick with HeLa
  • EM, MB, JP, RA: Meet to finalise details
  • Unassigned: Obtain an inverted microscope
  • Unassigned: Run controls to examine how long the cells can survive vertically

Improve the spatial variation

  • Decide the energy we should be optimising for
    • RW: Examine energy spectra variation
    • Find LET for different energies in the cell dish

Other Beamlines
