Abstract
We live in a Universe completely dominated by matter, yet matter and antimatter are believed to have been created in equal quantities. So, where has all the antimatter gone? In an attempt to allude answers to this question the CERN based ALPHA (Antihydrogen Laser Physics Apparatus) collaboration study trapped antihydrogen atoms, the antimatter counterpart of the simplest atom. By precise comparisons of hydrogen and antihydrogen, ALPHA hopes to study fundamental symmetries between matter and antimatter. The experiment, the technical advancements achieved, and the subsequent progress towards high precision measurements on antihydrogen that rely upon the formation and manipulation of non-neutral plasma will be presented.
