Gabor Lens meeting: 27Aug20; 16:00 BST

Summary of actions

  • CW Setup meeting with M.King to discuss results.
  • KL Get CW a wiki account.

Notes

  1. Introduction, notes and actions: KL/All
    • None
    • Big news: proposal submitted! KL will post to the applications page on the LhARA page on the wiki.
  1. Progress on beam experiments paper: TN
Meeting today: not so much progress because of work on the proposal. Hope to make more progress next week.

  1. Updates on the particle generation: HT
HTL has found paper describting 2D and 3D TNSA simulations. Paper suggests that 2D simulation over-estimates cut-off energy. Indication that present results on end-point is a factor of 2 different between 3D estimate and 2D estimate. Needs now to look at how scaling for energy is done.
2D gives over-estimate of the flux because in 3D force goes as 1/r2. In 2D its a cylindrical structure making it a 1/r dependence.
Agree that need to get a 3D simulation for comparison. Need to get a meeting with M.King at Strathclyde. Need to benchmark the codes.
Action: CW Setup meeting with M.King to discuss results.
  1. Updates on simulation of "IC" lens: TSD
    See slides. Points noted:
    • Offset of magnetic and electric axes does not lead to an offset in the centroid of the electron-cloud rotational motion.
    • CW comments that he wants now to review the new design to see how to introduce an ExB rotation.
  1. ERC proposal: KL/All
    • Submitted; now we wait.
  1. AOB: All
    • KL: EPSRC THT: need to worry about how we present the activity. General feeling is that we should apply.
