LhARA radiobiology; meeting: 14Jul25; 14:00 BST

Present: CW, RW, CP, EM, JMcG, AFR, CD, KL, DA

Notes

  1. Minutes and actions:
    • JP: Talk to Fisher and get a plan of action for the order and delivery of consumables to Strathclyde
      • STANDS
    • CD/AFR: Complete verification of RCF stack
      • STANDS
  1. Strathclyde Updates: RW, CW
    • Laser damage and beamtime:
      • Damage also includes a vacuum pipe that needs fixing, defines a new schedule
      • New Schedule:
        • Week 1: Get back to where we were a month ago with correct laser delivery to the target.
        • Week 2: Re-establish and troubleshoot proton generation.
        • Week 3: Work with the quads and some diagnostic testing in the PoPLaR configuration.
          • Opportunity for a full bio walkthrough.
          • Double check the autoclave waste
          • Highly dependent on week 1 and week 2
    • Bio-safety cabinets:
      • Recalibration still required and unsure of schedule
    • RCF stack fiduciary:
      • Smaller stack proving to be tricky
      • Larger stack can be used as a viable back-up
      • Ken may be able to encourage CLF to help with smaller stack
      • Aligned with a cross-hair on carousel and a laser along the beam axis
  1. Bioprep: EM/MH
    • IF needs staining from the last experiments (14 vs 28 MeV)
    • Issue with Mylar remains - colony survival too variable to be reliable
    • Tested post-plating FaDu cells from Mylar following 28 MeV protons (0-4Gy) with reliable and consistent colony formation
    • To do - Rerun cyclotron test experiments comparing 14 and 28 MeV with post-plating method for both HeLa and FaDu - date TBD
    • To do - stain, image and analyse IF on Mylar
  1. DoNM
  1. AoB
    • Present work to LhARA fortnightly tomorrow
      • CD: Updated SCAPA schedule
      • EM: Updates from latest experiment
      • CD: LMU work

Summary of actions

EM: Comparison of 14 and 28 MeV with post-plating method. Analyse IF on Mylar
CW: Bio-cabinets need recalibration
