  1. Notes and actions from last meeting:
  • AK agreed to find minimum bending radius;
    • Stands: Not yet established. AL will ask Saint Gobain when placing order for clear fibre.
  • LC will consider options for stopping the unravelling during manufacture.
    • LC took advice from J.Tarrant. Hard to implement a clamp. Idea to try double-sided tape to lock fibre down. LC also consulted Inspection Lab staff. They have a concept to print the bushes. They will inspect what is made.
  • AK,KL place an order for clear fibre
    • Stands. AK agreed to place the order.
  • HT check use of (e.g.) 50 micron aluminium in simulation
    • Agenda item.
  • JB supply printed circuit board spec
    • Done. Specifications sent to LC.
  1. Design update: LC
    • Winding jig.
      • Agreed to adopt 25mm minimum bending radius. Implies that specs of winding jig needs to be revised.
    • We agreed to move to building prototype winding gear. LC will produce drawings so that we can go out for quote. Imperial w/s and R12 to be considered in quoting process.
    • LC consulted Resin Lab. Recommendation to heat Araldite 2011 to 40-degrees. Equivalently, could use Araldite 2014 -- similar properties, but grey. Resin Lab can mix black Araldite.
    • Discussion of material for frame and potting scheme. Some preference for carbon fibre and black epoxy floated on the doublet layer to support and to exclude light.
  1. Simulation update: HTL
    • Slides.
    • Agreed HT would do simulation with fibres potted in Araldite.
    • JB asks for estimate of photons per second and photons per spill to help him specify readout. HT will try and estimate from simulation.
    • HT's estiamte of particle rate:
      • Proton rate 109; Carbon 108 in a 5s spill. HT will find out the rep rate.
    • JB: corrolary: what is the light yield of the source that we'll used to characterise the planes. Need to inject representative electron beam in simlation (HT).
  1. Optical readout considerations: JB
    • JB will propose an optical readout scheme when an estimate of light o/p has been made. We agreed that readout specification would be made within a month.
  1. Next steps
    • Goal is to carry out the actions agreed above and be ready to make initial winding trials in one month.
  1. DONM
    • 25Jun19: 11:00
  1. AoB
    • HTL: Simulation generates energy deposition rather thann light yeild. We agreed to use MICE prescription to move from energy to light.

Actions:

  • AK: Establish minimum bending radius.
  • AK: Place an order for clear fibre.
  • LC: Produce drawings for quote.
  • HT: Simulate doublet layers potted in Araldite.
  • HT: Try and estimate light yield from simulation.
  • HT: Find MedAustron rep rate.
  • HT: Inject 90Sr electrons to estimate test-rig light yeild.
