LhARA Radiobiology Meeting: 03Sep26; 14:00 BST
ZOOM: https://imperial-ac-uk.zoom.us/j/98220889714?pwd=SM90vOF7BKSXoU3mD9q7OwBQo4IVB3.1
- Planning Document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OTARVtxhLRu02S6CLdRDB2QlGvCqDfZ3aWBifjIFs_Q/edit?tab=t.0
Meeting Agenda
- Alternate Beamlines
- ELI proposal feedback
- Got rejected for several reasons but most are things we can deal with and the evaluators were generally positive and encouraged resubmission
- Next proposals for ELI have a deadline in October
- Beamtime next year
- Ken checking whether ELIMED is part of that
- Calvin to make a planning document so we can list the challenges and fill out how we will deal with them
- Discuss with ELI instrumentation team to make acceptance as likely as possible
- Discussion on beam energy
- Marie and Rosh have done a gap analysis and found one looking at <10MeV protons
- Fear that focussing on lower energy will not appeal to ELI since they have the technology to reach 60MeV
- ELI also appears to have lower beam quality as you go to lower energy
- Jason has comparison at Clatterbridge for 60MeV and 28MeV
- Could suggest higher energies but also no clear indication that lower energy was a reason we got rejected since we did not mention beam energy in the original submission
- ELI proposal feedback
- BioPrep
- Ken and Josie did a review
- Ken showed a figure showing cell death and very little difference between laser-driven and conventional but also multi-pulse and single shots
- Aim should be to improve on this
- Ken showed a figure showing cell death and very little difference between laser-driven and conventional but also multi-pulse and single shots
- Rosh and Marie have done a gap analysis
- They need to get the cells from Birmingham to start doing tests on transwells and the carousel
- Rosh has started defrosting cells
- They have also started looking at clever cell dish designs
- Ken found one with RCF sandwiched in between that he will send over to them
- Transwells are made for certain sizes: 12mm or 24mm
- 12mm would make more sense for us
- Requires at least 3 replicates
- Marie to test this with the x-ray irradiator
- Investigate if they get enough cells
- Smaller dish also means more beam to use for instrumentation
- Need a technical document on the transwells as well
- Marie to send specifications of the transwells to Tony.
- Send some to Birmingham so Tony (Emma) can test the transwells there as well.
- Ken and Josie did a review
- Instrumentation
- RCF
- Updates on EBT4 delaminated
- Asked but everyone been on holiday
- The self-attempts were not working too well
- SciFi
- Calvin collecting the camera equipment to test from QMUL
- Ken, Josie and Calvin to meet tomorrow to take this forward
- RCF
- Beamline Simulations
- Fatima has joined us who works at ELI-NP
- Going to help simulate ELI and Josie will try and reproduce her simulations
- Josie waiting on Ewan and Robbie to return to understand her simulations further and get some more information
- Josie has been talking to Hywel about the dipole designs
- Fatima has joined us who works at ELI-NP
- SCAPA
- Updates
- Review Trello: https://trello.com/invite/b/67587c515b0c69656ee78b48/ATTIe86f94b24e3e5884e4cb87e5ed3b89ab64321B83/poplar
